Michigan Food Tour

True Purpose of My Visit

Bienvenidos todo mundo, greetings everyone. I hope you’re having a great weekend. Thank you for joining me on this tour to the State of Michigan. While I have briefly posted a blog on a short visit to the States previously, this tour is a bit different for me. While I was stopping in Michigan to taste some of the wonderful foods they have to offer in the Southeast portion of the state, I was in this particular location to attend one of my children’s university graduation. This was an extraordinary proud experience for me. To be able to see any of my children graduate from university is a dream come true. Don’t get me wrong, I hold higher education qualifications. However, to be able to say that I have started a trend that has enable generations after generations to obtain the same, if not better educational qualifications, is a blessing.

Gratitude

Although my parents, who never obtained a college education, worked hard to allow me to achieve my goals, to be able to do the same for my children is beyond anything I could have ever hope to achieve in life. Now, for those of you that have been with me since the beginning, you already know what I am about to communicate. For those of you who just tuned in, thank you for being patient. As a reminder to myself first, I would like to reiterate one very important point. This blog is not only about my adventure to find vegan-friendly food throughout my worldly travels. It is about my journey through life as The Latin American Vegan. This includes my personal, professional, and social life. That also includes my failures and successes throughout the my journey. Now, let’s move along to the best part of the blog, the food.

Chive Kitchen

My first stop in Michigan includes a wonderful eatery called Chive Kitchen. To start it off, this restaurant is 100% vegan, which means I could eat anything and everything I wanted. The ambiance is attractive and relaxing. Well, to start of my meal at this establishment, I started out with a chai tea latté, which was fantastic. Next, I tried out a blackberry mojito, which was really good, as well. Thereafter, I went with the Reuben sandwich on Rye bread and house fries. The fries by themselves were well cooked and wonderfully seasoned. The sandwich was made with seitan, which by the way was one of the best tasting seitan I have ever tasted. I also had Pecan Brulée cake and Apple Caramel Cheese Cake. Yes, two desserts. What can I say? I have a sweet tooth. For more in-depth details on this restaurant, watch the link below.

Chili Mustard Onions

Next, I visited one of my favorite spots, thus far, on this tour. The Chili Mustard Onions restaurant is iconic in the Big D, Detroit. This location is also 100% vegan. However, this is no ordinary restaurant. The setting is quite a hipster type environment. I say iconic because it personifies Detroit in its type of art setting, which is indicative of Detroit history. Additionally, as you may know by now, I absolutely love burgers. It just so happens that Chili Mustard Onions has one of the most marvelous tasting burgers period. So, I had me the Big Mock made vegan bacon bits, vegan cheese, vegan sour cream, and not one but two beyond meat burger patties on a sesame bun. Of course, I made my fries loaded. I know, I know, not the healthiest items to eat, but I am only being real with you and sharing my transition to a healthier vegan lifestyle.

It is Just That Good

That’s not the end of it. My son, who was with me on this excursion, had a gyro sandwich, which was also pretty good. We also ordered the Coney dog, which came with house made cheese sauce with onions on top. To top it all off, we had dessert. While they offer several wonderful dessert options, we decided to go with the Triple Layered German Chocolate Cake. I don’t think I need to even go into how great the dessert tasted. On the other hand, if you wish to know more about it, you are more than welcomed to hit the link above for details on this wonderful visit to the Chili Mustard Onions eatery. All in all, this location, along with Chive Kitchen met my extremely high expectations. So, if you are ever in the cities of Detroit or Farmington, make sure to visit these two locations. Trust me, you’ll never regret it.
