Vegan Options Right On The Menu

Vegan Options Right On The Menu

Hi everyone and welcome to another blog session. As you all know, this blog thus far has been focused on vegan food finds and local Riyadh restaurants offering vegan-friendly options. This week is no exception. I shall be enlightening you about a local eatery that many people did not know has vegan options. It not only has vegan-friendly choices, it says it right on the menu. That is surprising to me because there are not too many restaurants in the locality that provides a vegan section on their menu. Therefore, when a restaurant does afford this to its customers, it should be a celebrated topic that ought to allow us to rejoice. On another note, my upcoming trip to Malaysia is roughly two weeks away and I will be blogging, vlogging, and instagraming about the entire trip. More excitingly, I will be attending the World Vegan Day Malaysia 2018, which will be taking place on 10-11 November. So, stay tuned for some sensational news.

A Comfy Atmosphere

This week’s review of vegan-friendly restaurants is about a little quaint eatery that we have all seen, heard of, or even eaten from at some point during our stay in Riyadh. It is none other than the Sushi Counter. Please take note, just because I mention that these restaurants are local doesn’t mean that they do not have branches outside of Riyadh. As a matter of fact, the majority of restaurants which I have blogged about or will be blogging about are chain restaurants. Thus, everyone should be able to benefit from these blogs no matter where in the world you may reside. Now, the branch I will be discussing is located at Panorama Mall. It is not a huge location, but it serves its purpose. It is well decorated and provides a comfy atmosphere. Before I forget, it provides a 10% discounts to all women that possess a Saudi Arabian driver’s license. However, please keep in mind that this discount is only available at the date and time of this posting. So, take advantage while it last. I don’t know how long they will keep this promotion.

Several Delicious Options

Moving right along. You can jump right to the vegetarian and vegan options page on the menu. There are several delicious items to choose from so don’t despair. If you are, however, skeptical about any food articles, you can ask them to clarify any of the ingredients. Alternatively, you can always ask them to remove any food ingredients for you, if you want to be on the safe side. The first item on the list for us was the Vegetable Ceviche, which is made with edamame, red capsicum, yellow capsicum, artichoke, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, onion, and lime. It comes with their signature ceviche sauce. Customarily, ceviche sauce is not vegan friendly, so I wouldn’t take my chances and just asked them to replace it with a vegan-friendly option instead. Nevertheless, take a look at this beautiful creation down below. Yes, it tasted as good as it looks. You should definitely give this a try if you have the opportunity. Don’t forget to order a great tasting cold green tea, shown above.

Yummy California Rolls

Next, we had the Sweet Garden California Roll along with the Mango Chutney California Roll. Both of these options where absolutely fantastic. The Sweet Garden California Roll is made with avocado, carrot, cucumber, crispy onion, sushi rice, and sweet chili sauce. The Mango Chutney California Roll is made with mango chutney, of course, pistachio, almond, cucumber, mango, and sushi rice. For condiments, they serve these dishes with pickled ginger and wasabi paste, as expected. Now, while both of these options are extremely satisfying, I prefer the Sweet Garden California Roll. The reason for my partiality is entirely based on the fact that I loved the crispy onions on top. This ingredient took this California Roll to the next level for me. At any rate, you will not go wrong with either of these two options. Nonetheless, these were just our choices. There are plenty of other options for you to choose from on the menu.

Rice, Rice, and More Rice!

The next item on the list was a savory dish that had so many flavors, it was like a carnival of seasonings in my mouth. This dish was the Spicy Crispy Rice Vegetable Stone Bowl. It was made with, of course, steamed rice, carrot, edamame, tofu, potatoes, hijiki, asparagus, chili garlic sauce, spring onions, and soy sauce. It also, usually, comes with tamago; however, tamago is egg based and you should ask them to remove it from the dish if you are going to have it. If you take a look at the pic below, you can see this is no ordinary rice dish. It is full of so many ingredients that the flavors are like a vibrant meadow. Nevertheless, be very careful. The stone bowl is extra hot as it continues to cook the rice giving it its crispy texture. What’s the verdict? You should visit Sushi Counter, it won’t disappoint. Thanks for joining me again. I hope you’ve enjoyed it. Remember, eat to live a stronger, healthier life and never, ever live simply just to eat. Adios!
